Los Angeles Valley College Student Union (formerly the Monarch Center)

Los Angeles Valley College Valley Glen Gateway Building project consisted of:

A new 2 story gathering and meeting place for students, the 66,118-square- foot Student Union will bring together student-centered services such as the Cafeteria, Campus Bookstore, Student Health Center, Business Office, and the Associated Student Union (ASU) offices. It will also be home to the new Lion’s Den, a dedicated space for students to gather and relax between classes, as well as a coffee bar.

Project Highlights:

  • One of the highlights of this new building will be a unique “skybox” feature with panoramic views of the campus from the outdoor patio and walkway, with sheltered seating underneath for student gatherings
  • The new cafeteria dining area opens up to the covered outdoor patio that can be used as a student event plaza.
  • The most prominent design feature is the 20,000 sf sloping front entrance canopy towering 41 feet above finished grade at its highest point.
