Mike Enomoto

Born in Los Angeles, Michael A. Enomoto’s architectural career has closely followed the growth of Los Angeles. After earning his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Mr. Enomoto joined Gruen Associates in 1973. He was named a Vice President in 1980 and a Partner at Gruen Associates in 1998. Mr. Enomoto has held a California Architectural License since 1975. He is NCARB certified and holds licenses in New York, Nevada, Massachusetts and Hawaii. As a practitioner, mentor and community leader he has earned his reputation as a leading proponent of Executive Architecture, which has resulted in a body of collaborative work that is clearly at the forefront of architectural design and which has dramatically influenced the practice of architecture.

His first assignments at Gruen Associates included the Pacific Design Center, Cal Plaza One, Pacific Design Center II, the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel Renovation, South Coast Plaza Phases III and IV, Montebello Town Center, the Bel Air Country Club and the Disney Corporate Headquarters.

In 1986, he was appointed Project Manager for the $302 million Los Angeles Convention Center Expansion Project. At the time, this was the largest public works project in the City of Los Angeles. Subsequently, he has worked on Ronald Reagan Federal Building, the U.S. Courthouse in Santa Ana, the U.S. Courthouse in Fresno, the United States Embassy in Berlin, Germany, the Foley Courthouse, in Las Vegas, and the Sisk Federal Building, in Fresno. Presently, he is working on the Orange County Performing Arts Center Expansion and the Red Building, the third and final building in the Pacific Design Center triad.

Immediately following the Northridge earthquake, Mr. Enomoto volunteered his services to the Department of Public Works of the City of Los Angeles to assist in recovery efforts, and since then he has been responsible for many seismic repair projects, including Gruen's scope of work for the Los Angeles Coliseum Earthquake Repair, the seismic repair of Hangars 901 and 902 at Van Nuys Airport for the Los Angeles World Airports, the seismic renovation of the Jewish Federation Headquarters Building, the ADA upgrades at LA Trade Tech College, the 201 Ocean Avenue Towers Seismic Repair, the Los Angeles Swim Stadium Earthquake Assessment, and the 1111 Sunset Boulevard Seismic Repair and Adaptive Re-Use.

In 2007, Mr. Enomoto was elected as the President of the Los Angeles Chapter of the AIA. He is currently the Los Angeles Chapter representative to AIA California Council. He was elevated to the College of Fellows of the AIA in 2007. He was previously the President of the Asian American Architects/Engineers Association of Southern California (AAa/e). Presently he serves on the Board of Directors of the AAa/e Foundation, the City of Los Angeles Quality and Productivity Commission, and on the Board of Directors of the Southern California Development Forum (SCDF) and was the Forum’s President in 2008.

For the last twenty years, Mr. Enomoto has volunteered architectural services for the Children’s Institute International (CII), a Not-For-Profit organization dedicated to providing intervention services for at-risk children in the greater Los Angeles area. He has also served on the 2003 National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) Awards Selection Committee and also in 2003, Enomoto was awarded the prestigious Leonardo Award by the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS). In 2004 he served on the SMPS Awards Selection Committee and through Mr. Enomoto’s efforts, his company has been a sponsor for many SMPS Programs. He has also been extremely involved in a variety of other significant community projects throughout Los Angeles.
